So I check my grades for the term today and discover that not only have I done well, I've surpassed all of my previous terms by a wide margin.

They must start putting something in the water when you get to fourth year. I dunno.

Anyway, I'm really excited.

:D :D :D :D

After four years of hearing "you can do better" from my parents and being frustrated by their disappointment, they finally seem impressed by my transcript. Though I was irritated when the first thing my mother asked about was the lowest grade. Really irritated.

However, my father gave me some rare praise, which more than made up for it. Dad's my hero. :) :) :)

So. If you have good news, post here. This is a feel-good thread ONLY. :)

I got a Dell Notebook for Xmas. The one I wanted, but couldn't afford.....I had looked at buying the Inspiron 500m or 600m, but my folks got me the Inspiron 8600 with all kinds of bonus stuff. I can make movies and stuff!

Yippee! :D

Now I just hafta figure out how everything works. In a way, getting this was like giving a kindergartener a 7-series BMW to drive.

Flowers are pretty cute. Although I think they shall forever have a negative connotation for me, because the last/first guy to give me flowers gave them to me with the statement, "I asked my mom what to get you, and she said flowers was a good idea..."

Edit: Although, if someone got me me-specific flowers, like green roses or irises or lilacs or something, I'd follow them for quite some time...

I just checked my grades (university offers only online access) and I got a B on my incomplete (which I am not sure I deserved, but the professor is definitely getting a free dinner on me), and I got two As and two Bs, giving me a 3.36 for the semester, putting me on the dean's list, and my overall GPA is now a 3.012!!

Now tomorrow I find out if I got that internship I was vying for.

Well, after a couple of weeks of awful news and bad things happening, I'm about to buy the computer of my dreams. Since other people are posting specs:

Dual 1.8GHz PowerPC 970s
512MB of DDR-400 RAM
160GB Serial ATA HD
DVD/CD-RW
Radeon 9800 Pro

Yum. I plan to buy a nice 15" or 17" LCD to go with it. And maybe an extra gig of RAM.

Wouldn't it cost you about a million billion dollars to ship it all the way to Canuckistan? Thanks, though. :) Besides, I finally settled on a 17" LCD today. Mmmmm, digital input.

And now that Apple is aware that I'm a student, a decent discount is in the cards as well.

Tick, I am happy to say that the content is entirely 100% original stuff, right down the the Island of Huff, all the towns and cities, the plot line, the Demon Kor Garesh, and all NPC's.

In fact, a great deal of the plot comes directly from the character backgrounds, most important of which was Mission's background, which created the whole Anileth plot point, and is the linchpin of the entire endeavor.

Many thanks to my players for very inspiring character backgrounds.

On that note:

No, but you will learn more details after the party and rennik meet up.

Noemon
01-20-2004, 03:13 PM
If Rennik didn't die, it can only be because Elise (or whatever her name is) let him live, which suggests a number of possibilities:

a) He was captured
B) He was infected by the were-thing he fought back at the inn, and as such will soon become a willing minion of hers.
c) She's using him as bait to draw the rest of the party (this last one seems unlikely, because they'll be easy enough to find, bumbling loudly along the only path in the wilderness.

I'm betting on some combination of A and B, with a fairly large second helping of B.

I got the internship! Yay!

Now I am scared shitless. I have to digitize a tape for them for powerpoint and take stock photos, but that's the easy part.

The hard part is the 7-minute promotional video I hafta do. By myself. All of it.

I can do most of the things needed to make a video, but I realize I cannot do all of them at the same time. I may need to ask a classmate (or former, Brian and Vince come to mind), for help with shooting, and interviews. Anyway, it should be fun.
I am also in the documentary class and will work with 5 others to make a (at least) 20-minute video.

I also saw Big Fish on Monday night. It was awesome. I cried at the end; I'm really glad it wasn't PMS week b/c I would still be crying hours afterward.

But anyway, I liked it. It had the Tim Burton creepiness (just a touch), with a realistic, human element.

Starla*
02-09-2004, 02:54 PM
Sorry. No can do. Not in need of a man---just in need of a date. Preferably a man, and preferably one in New Jersey--Southern NJ.

The problem of the date is that they've come up in 3 sets of two.
2 are guys that people tell me I should take, because they don't have dates. One's a skinny freshman kid that I could break in half with my pinky. The other's my future brother-in-law's roomate who I could break in half with my other pinky. Neither of them have really been considered. Both are too young.

The other 2 are guys I know that looked at me with puppy-dog eyes when I said I wanted to have a date for the ball. They fall in the "incredibly desperate" or "please date me" category. Both are nice guys, but they weren't considered because I don't want them to think I want to date them, because I don't. I don't find that attitude attractive.

The last 2 are the guys I've considered asking. I don't know which one to ask first, or even which one would go, or even if they would go with me. One's a friend, who would be really fun w/o being pushy. The other is someone I have an interest in, but I'm not sure if it would be his kind of thing.
I only want a date b/c I've never really had a good date to a formal. I went to 3 proms, only one of which the date was a boyfriend. The other two, the guys spent more time with another girl (or guy, in one case). The two winterballs before this, I went alone. I enjoyed myself--but it kinda sucked when I wanted to dance with someone and there was no one to dance with except the sweaty, desperate freshman boy. I just think it would be nice for my final dance.
I don't know. I have other things to worry about first. Like the next phase of research for my documentary proposal.

Anyway. Finger Eleven was AWESOME! I even liked the three other bands (No Motiv, Idle Sons, and Edgewater). My friends and me were front and center of the stage, which only came up to my knee, anyway.
The only thing that sucked was this really drunk guy in a suit came up behind meduring Finger Eleven's set. He was about my age, and he was getting too close for comfort. It wasn't like he was trying to get closer to the stage, either (I experienced that more than once, one time at Sense Field I was front and center, and these two groupies tried to climb over me so they could touch the lead singer---how stupid). I turned to look at him and it appeared that he was, erm, pleasuring himself while staring at my neck, back and behind. Now, I was not dressed revealing, and though I am attractive, I am not so much that would cause a man to masturbate in public. I wanted to punch him in the face, but I didn't want to get kicked out. My friend pulled me next to her and he eventually went away. After the song was over, the two girls on the other side of me said I should have hit him. I should have--my two friends would have helped me, so would the other girls, plus a guy from up the street was nearby, and he would have helped me out.
Oh well.

I had a great time though. Edgewater's lead gets the award for funniest "rock star" faces. No Motiv gets the award for most dedicated fan, because some dude named jeff followed them here from California, and jumped over the right side of the stage, and landed right below my feet (good thing we moved in time). FInger Eleven's guitarist gets the award for craziest player, as he was jumping around and swinging his guitar around his neck--almost creaming the bassist (who seemed like a nice guy--talked to him after the show). He also had a cigarette in his mouth and was swinging around his hair--I thought he would light it on fire. I found out later he won $450 at the casino before the show. Maybe that's why, or maybe he's just like that.

But best fan guy was Sean the guitarist for Idle Sons, who came out to give people sample CDs and ask how everyone was enjohying the show. He ran out when he got to us, so he said he would get more and come back. I thought "yeah right" but he did, and even chatted with us a bit. He was nice eye candy, too. Good customer service can go a long way, folks. He even said goodnite a few hours later when we left.

But anyway.

Lalo--don't wear out your bicycle--I rarely, rarely, rarely have dated guys that I don't know (it only happened once), and, as Kama said, I have standards. Rather high standards.

I'm not single because no man wants me. I'm single, partially because I like it, and partially because it's hard for me to find a man worth dating.

Thanks anyway, though. :)

That's cool--sorry I mistook your meanings :) If your in New Jersey---then why not visit with some Grenmatic folk--I hear Leonide and Strider are in Pennslyvania somewhere, John and me live pretty close to each other....

Well, I was on here for some good news updates.

I hooked up with the guy I liked---it's causal right now, nothing too serious. I'm thinking about trying to go see him on my lunch break. :) It all happened on Valentine's day

I bought a VW Bus--1978, with funky murals. Pix pending. I have some history with it--

In "Play the Field" I mentioned a guy who really treated me like crap. Well, the bus had been his. He bought it last April, parked it behind a friend's apartment, and put the title in his name. That was it. THe friend moved out in May, but the bus sat there until it was impounded in October. THe city of Glassboro sold it at auction in November, since idiot never came up with the title. The guy who bought it (who was also the guy who towed it for the city), had contact with jerk, and said he would hold it if he could come up with some money and the original title, and keys. Jerk left it sit there for 3 months, so a few days before Valentine's day, it was put out for sale, $750 obo, on the same road I take to get the school. I stop and ask about it, prentending I don't know jerk, go home and discuss with family, and decide to buy for $450.

My stepfather and a friend towed it for me yesterday. :)

More later, lunchtime.

Hmm, good news? A close friend I hadn't heard from in a few months IMed me last night. That made me happy. Especially since, as the only one of my high school friends ever to visit me here in college, he's my favorite person to talk to about any kind of issues going on with my friends here. We had a good talk. :)

Okay, what is it about the downswing? Maybe there IS vodka in there. Seriously though, now that the initial high is worn off, I'm almost in a grumpy mood to precipitate the other end of the cycle, because I don't want it to catch me by surprise.

Swedish/Uraguayan epic Heavy Metal band.

They're not death metal---and they actually have a nice, clean sound. The drummer's more of a jazz drummer than a metal one, but that makes it all the better.

I saw Ken Burns last night! He came to our college's annual Talking Pictures event.

It was very cool---he's a hilarious guy. I never realized how much he is into the race issue--he said that the race issue in America is the apple as it was to Eden.

We were also shown a bit of his upcoming documentary "Unforgivable Blackness," a 4-hour long film about the life of boxer Jack Johnson. It looks really awesome, and it won't be out until next January.

I'll also be writing an article for the school paper on the event--since it's also an online paper, maybe I'll link it.

He's kinda short , too, only my height, and very slightly built. He's over 50, too, and doesn't look it.

Only 3 people from my documentary class came. Me, Sam, and Tom, who all are working on the same documentary. I remember 2 weeks ago, when the professor announced he was coming to campus, someone asked who Ken Burns was.

Blasphemy, I hissed.

I'm bored, so I decided to find a Tarot Card place online. Lets hear some explanations. :)

Question: Should I pursue that Psych degree?

1st position: Prince of Cups
2nd position: Knight of Wands
3rd position: Ten of Swords
4th position: The Moon
5th: The sun
6th: Lust
7th: The 5 of Cups
8th: 5 of Wands
9th: The Emporer
10th: Ace of Swords
11th: Eight of Cups

Feel free to just make something up, or, if you know what you are doing, go ahead and waste some time finding this out. :)

celia60
04-02-2004, 02:08 PM
Lust? Is the lust card the same as The Devil? I don't seem to have a lust card.

Edit to add: The suite of Pentacles (or Pentagrams) deal with material wealth. While I don't have time to tell you what your current spread means, I can tell you you won't be making any money. ;)

PS: Starla, check your GMS.

I was in a book store Friday night (yes, married life is just that exciting) and noticed a book on Cromley Tarot. No wonder your cards didn't make any sense to me. Lust = Strength for starters. And I forget which the Princes and Knights are the equivalent of. Where did you get that reading from?

Novak@Lazy
04-05-2004, 11:23 AM
Pssh, I hang out with friends in bookstores, and I'm not married.

celia60
04-05-2004, 02:23 PM
First off,

*smacks Nathan for asking a yes/no question*

There are recurring themes of decisiveness, which makes sense as this is a question of making a decision. There are also several references to perception, and directing wisdom and perception to higher goals, which I think is a good fit for your aspirations of what a psychology degree leads to.

There’s a sense of overcoming fears, having conversations you don’t want to have and making difficult decisions in seeking a path to wholeness.

The two future cards suck. They both indicate disillusionment and depression. The 8 of cups (outcome) indicates the recognition that you are responsible for your own disappointment and warns against starting projects with no hope of success.

I guess the good news is that you don’t believe in any of this crap anyway.

If you want a more thorough reading, let me know.

Novak@Lazy
04-05-2004, 03:33 PM
What ones are the future cards?

::shrug:: It's interesting, alright?

Xavier
04-05-2004, 03:41 PM
My problem with this is that you are supposed to be the one who shuffled actual cards.

The only way for your personality to have anything to do with how the cards are laid out, you need to have control over them beyond pushing a button. That just uses computer generated randoms to shuffle it.

So really the cards are saying the computer shouldn't pursue a psych degree :).

Not that I believe the stuff anyway, and not that I am an expert or anything. Its just that the information on it I have seen was quite clear that the human being the one shuffling the cards was a major factor that when removed makes the process useless.

I could be wrong though.

Oh and Kat, I was looking through old threads and I found a bunch of friend tests. I took yours and got an 81, the highest score on there :). Kind of strange considering I hardly know you at all. Maybe I knew you in a past life ;).

celia60
04-05-2004, 03:47 PM
1st: Prince of Cups - Significator (You)
2nd: Knight of Wands - Current Environment/Situation
3rd: Ten of Swords - Obstacle
4th: The Moon - Goal/Desire
5th: The sun - Foundation of Current Environment
6th: Lust - Past
7th: The 5 of Cups - Immediate Future
8th: 5 of Wands - Future Environment
9th: The Emporer - Influence of Society
10th: Ace of Swords - Challenge
11th: Eight of Cups - Outcome

7 and 11 specifically are the future. 8 and 9 to some extent, but they are more world around you than you specific.

Xavier, I've heard that as well. I had a friend who had one deck which only he was permitted to touch for fear of contamination.

My own opinion is that the cards represent archetypical human experiences. Given the range of interpretation for each card and the number of cards laid out in a single spread, it is statistically likely that some parts will resonate with the person receiving the reading. This likelihood increases as the specificity of the question decreases.

A good reader will pick up on what aspects their victim (ahem, seeker) is identifying with and can bend the rest of the cards to fit within that. Someone who Believes the cards are right can also do this. A mix of these two leads to me entertaining people at parties with all sorts of revelations.

The thing is, though, that because they do represent our common experiences, they are useful. I will occasionally pull them out when I’m stumped on something I cannot fit my mind around because I can find connections in the cards that give me a different perspective on whatever the situation is. I don’t ask them for advice, I certainly don’t do anything because they tell me to, but I find it useful to see a situation from another angle.

I checked me GMS, Celia. Sorry it took me so long. **smacks self**

I was a diehard rune fan when my mom got me tarot cards for my 21st b-day. I didn't really trust them, or believe in them.
A couple of weeks later, a did several card readings (little ones), trying to determine which guy would be the best boyfriend candidate (I'm so lame).

I ended up going for a guy the readings told me not to go for. But, in the end, I drew the 10 of staves, which for my deck meant I would go through hell, but have a great reward. Greater struggle, greater reward.

We dated, and his family didn't approve of me. I got hurt pretty badly, and he got all weird and rebounded like hell, in front of me, basically. I still wanted him to be my friend, and I wanted to forgive him. Well, after a long painful struggle, I got a great friend. I haven't seen him since last May, but we talk all the time. I might see him on Easter.

My most recent card reading was about a month ago, when I wasn't so sure what to do with the guy I was dating, or what was happening.

I was the queen of cups, and directly on top of me was the rev. knight of cups (an irresponsible but charming person), who I determined to be Ben. On top of that was the knight of coins--who I had an immediate impression was this other guy I know, but told myself it couldn't be.

Then I had a revelation at 6:30 in the morning--remembering my first impression of it being this other guy, b/c things are happening, and slowly--which is good. I'm tired of this fast stuff. The reading told me I'm afraid of problems and difficultoes surrounding love (well, with my history, duh), I have been stifled by my family (rev. empress), I've been subjected to violence (rev. ace swords), but if I am paitient and persistent and restrained, I will achieve a great prize (3 of staves).

The questioner card (7th) made no sense to me --Knight of swords, which in this reading is my attitude towards the situation. I guess it's how I'm acting (I didn;t think I was). But the 8th (enviro factors) was 2 of coins, showing I'm having a few problems in that department as far as my behavior goes, and the 9th (inner emotions and fears) was the 2 of cups rev., showing I'm afraid of being unhappy in love, or being separated too soon. The final outcome was rev. 6 of cups--meaning I would renounce the past--whatever that means. I won't find out for at least a few months.

When I first did this reading, I applied it all to Ben--even though I had an impression of someone else. When I had that revelation the other morning, the reading came together for me.

I'm a believer now.

I apolgize for blathering on. :)

Oh, I have good news! I ranked 13th in a state in a French competition. It was a notional competition, however, I failed to score high enough to be cared about.

I am not sure how many people in the state took it, but in The Jefferson County Public School system I am gussing around 2000.

JaneX's High School graduation is today. :)

They had a senior luncheon earlier in the week, and she won awards from the school for excellence in English, Social Studies, and Bible studies(Prophets), and honors in Art (one of her best friends won the top prize in that).

They also gave her an unofficial "National Merit" medal for her to wear on her graduation gown, in honor of being a National Merit Finalist.

Lalo's post scared me (no, that is not my good news). He has been set loose upon the world! Gadzookies!

Now for MY good news!

The Army Housing Department has finally realized that my crappy two-bedroom apartment (on the second floor) is a health hazard.
*grin*
No, really, that is good news.

For two years (TWO YEARS!) I have been telling them that I have mold in the drywall. That is why I get bronchitis twice a year (had it twice in my lifetime before I came here, and I was thirty years old when I moved to West Point), that is why my kid is always sick with a head cold, and that is why my husband is having upper respiratory infections chronically.

I reported this, and the crack in the bathroom wall (where a lot of moisture gets into the drywall) and the caulking falling out of the tub creases many many times. Prescription: patch the wall and re-caulk the tub. Every Three Months. I had the ... oh, what's he called? The Hazardous Stuff Guy? Something. Anyway, I had the guy come out to measure the mold content in my bathroom. Oh yes, you have mold. No problem. Use bleach and re-caulk the bathtub (AGAIN). Not hazardous enough.

So, this last week I get a call from the Housing Department, there is apparently a flood in the crawlspace. I have no idea what this means (what part of the apt. unit it is at), but the bottom line is: everyone in the apt. housing unit (four families) has to move to new quarters. Moved by professional movers. Paid for by the Army. With expenses paid for utility service switching fees.

WOOHOO!

Plus, because Chuck is promotable, he is eligible for an upgrade in housing facility, so we are going to get a three-bedroom house (an actual house! with a yard! And no one living beneath us!).

*swoon*

The wheels of justice move slowly, so we won't be moving until (probably) the end of the month, but hey, we've been living with mold for this long...

*does a little dance*

I'm going to live in a real house!

I'm going to have more space than I know what to do with!

I live in 816 sq ft of space now--and I will be living in 1016 sq ft (plus detached garage) of space next month! Oh the ecstacy!

Seriously, I am an old lady with simple dreams.

So. Farking. Happy.

Our auto insurance went down by almost $130 for the next six months! Yea for getting older than 25! Steve actually just turned 26 and I'm sure that helped even more. Over the last two years. Its gone down by ~$300 (per six months) over the last two years. I think it started up at $1167/six months about two years ago and now it's down to $863 for the next six months. I'm the one with the accident and a single moving violation on my driving record, but he's the one with the expensive car that costs more to insure.

C'mon! We need more happy stuff! Something good must have happened to someone recently....

I mean, not much good has happened to me, but I still try to be cheerful (key word "try").

I got free chocolate when I went to buy a card at Hallmarks.

I saw my guy for about 45 minutes yesterday.

I rode my stepfather's bike home from work on Friday (12 miles in an hour and 20 min, not bad for having not been on a bike in 4 years--I wasn't even winded!).

The wild blackberries are ripe on the vines next to work and I plan on picking them today.

My project is coming along more quickly.

I found a place to hang the lovely piece of artwork I was given for my birthday. It is now part of the library.

I suck at Thief, but enjoy playing it. I picked the right character in Hunter: Redeemer without having read any of the instructions. My Harvest Moon farm is doing pretty well now that I've worked out a system of bribery with the local sprites and figured out how to get to the lower levels of the mines. If only I could smash big stones and figure out where to get massive quantities of wood from.... I've unlocked Master difficulty level in all but 5 songs on Groove. I finally defeated my arch nemisis in KoL.

Oh, and my new advisor rocks. He's keeping me busy enough that I don't have time for anything in the above paragraph to progress, but that just means I'll get done sooner. And he's buying me a new camera! And building a cell culture lab for just his students! Did I mention that he rocks?

Good stuff? Let's see--I'm finally done with cleaning out the old place I was renting, so now I can schedule my walkthrough and get my ridiculously huge deposit back. That's a good thing. Plus, the owner of the place I was renting wants me to water some new trees she had planted this past spring, so I'm going to be keeping the key to the house. She's said that I can use the house when I'm out watering the trees, so I effectively have a resort-like (seriously, the place is gorgeous), furnished weekend house that I'll get to use for at least the next two months, and probably longer (for a variety of reasons, it'll be a while before she rents the place out again).

Oh, and also, I deposited my tenants' rent checks over the weekend. I'm officially a land lord now. That was pretty cool.

They FINALLY put a grade on my internship. This means I can get my degree.

They gave me an A-; which is even better--but I was at the point where I didn't care if I got an F b/c I didn't need the credits or the internship to graduate and I wanted my $26,000 plus interest piece of paper.

At first it was my fault--I didn't send them a paper or a log book. They notified me, and told me I had to take care of it by July 1. I did, but they still never changed the grade, so I called, asked nicely, and got what I wanted.

Now, hopefully the assistant dean can get a May date put on the thing rather than August since they screwed up.

One step forward in the swamp. :) One step closer to getting out. :)

I am reviving the good news thread because today is the most hopeful I've been in months.

I still don't have a permanent gig (life sucks, etc.).

But as of yesterday, I know I have a boss (albeit a temporary boss--until December, it looks now) who thinks I am worth speaking to, and worth speaking about to *her* peers towards a permanent position.

Happiness is: Maybe all of this, maybe all of me, isn't over--maybe it hasn't really started, or maybe I can restart it. Happiness is my own peers. And a boss who doesn't remind me daily that sie thinks I'm stupid. And a bunch of other things.

And banannas. I'm about to get my second bunch for the season. :)

Normally, I would have happy things to post. I would always find something.

I got my car back. My degree finally fucking came in the mail. These are good.

I am alone now. We broke up. Not because we didn't care about each other anymore--it was getting too hard. Since our accidents back in June we've seen each other 5 times (in 3 months). My parents, though I cannot blame them for what has happened between us, I see they had a hand in the chain of events, and I cannot forgive them.

I can't even say that what's up above is the reason. We had to let each other go. I don't know if this is permenant or temporary in all aspects of both words, but we had to. At least we walked away knowing we still loved each other.

This spanned over a week or two, starting around the end of August. We both wanted one more day together. Sept 8th was the day. The second wednesday of September will not bode well for me when it comes to relationships.

I brought him a birthday cake and a present (bought weeks ago), his birthday was the 2nd. I had told my parents I was working, and hitched a ride with a friend to Blackwood. We spent the whole day together. Going to that apartment felt like going home, so safe. We held each other for a long time. We played, talked, laughed, and cried together. I will miss him. I do miss him.

I am sad, but not heartbroken. It's hard to explain all the things that have happened, and what is happening. I have a lot of work to do. It was bad enough I had to lose my lover over my incompetance. He said it wasn't my fault, none of it.

So many things...

When my stepfather told me I couldn't see him anymore, I felt like a china plate someone had smashed on the floor and stomped on until the pieces were dust. In the few weeks, I had felt odd, I couldn't place it. I didn't feel empty or broken. I felt more like a shard of the plate, hidden under the cupboard while the rest was swept up and thrown in the trash. A fragment.

When I saw Heath for the last time (I hadn't seen him in a month), I better, like, he fished the pieces out and gave them back to me. I felt more like myself, remembered who I was. I still have to put the pieces together.

I'm not making sense. I'm only talking in bits and pieces. Most are things I need to keep to myself. I need to be alone for a while. If I don't post for a while, don't worry. I'll be back. I just need to be alone. Take care of what I've left alone for too long.

I guess the best I can say is this. We learned a lot in the last 5 months together. He said I've shown him so many things. We won't forget each other, if this is goodbye for good. I learned so much, have so many good memories. I am very sad. I will miss him for a long time. I know in my heart he will be fine, he is strong, he will miss me, but he seems to know when it's time to go.

He asked me to promise him I wouldn't give up, and that I would be careful. Who knows what will happen. I'm not hoping for too much, but I will look and see where I am in a couple months. Then we will see.

He has grown up since I first met him. So much.

I'm sorry folks, this has more been a meadering of my many thoughts. Not everything is there. Only pieces. Things will get better. Life goes on. I had a good person with me. In some ways, he is still with me. I don't know what else to say.

I won't be around for a while. I will return though.
