Looks like one of McCain's top advisers has started the ball rolling on the whole "if you don't vote Republican you're helping the turriss" baloney:Charles R. Black Jr., one of McCain's most senior political advisers, said in an interview with Fortune magazine that a fresh terrorist attack "certainly would be a big advantage to him." He also said that the December assassination of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto, while "unfortunate," helped McCain win the Republican primary by focusing attention on national security.

I find it ridiculous and deplorable that McCain didn't drop this guy like a bad habit. He's really turned his back on a lot of ideals that I respected about him in the last year, this being a new one.

Way to go, Johnnie: nice way to keep the campaign clean.

It's an amazing time to be alive in America. We're in a year of firsts in this presidential election: the first viable woman candidate; the first viable African-American candidate; and, a candidate who is the first front-running freedom fighter over 70. The next president of America will be a first.

We won't truly be in an election of firsts, however, until we judge every candidate by where they stand. We won't arrive where we should be until we no longer talk about skin color or gender. Now that Barack Obama steps to the front of the Democratic field, we need to stop talking about his race, and start talking about his policies and his politics.

The reality is this: Though the Democrats will not have a nominee until August, unless Hillary Clinton drops out, Mr. Obama is now the frontrunner, and its time America takes a closer and deeper look at him. Some pundits are calling him the next John F. Kennedy. He's not. He's the next George McGovern. And it's time people learned the facts.

Because the truth is that Mr. Obama is the single most liberal senator in the entire U.S. Senate. He is more liberal than Ted Kennedy, Bernie Sanders, or Mrs. Clinton. Never in my life have I seen a presidential frontrunner whose rhetoric is so far removed from his record. Walter Mondale promised to raise our taxes, and he lost. George McGovern promised military weakness, and he lost. Michael Dukakis promised a liberal domestic agenda, and he lost.

Yet Mr. Obama is promising all those things, and he's not behind in the polls. Why? Because the press has dealt with him as if he were in a beauty pageant.. Mr. Obama talks about getting past party, getting past red and blue, to lead the United States of America. But let's look at the more defined strokes of who he is underneath this superficial "beauty."

Start with national security, since the president's most important duties are as commander-in-chief. Over the summer, Mr. Obama talked about invading Pakistan, a nation armed with nuclear weapons; meeting without preconditions with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who vows to destroy Israel and create another Holocaust; and Kim Jong II, who is murdering and starving his people, but emphasized that the nuclear option was off the table against terrorists - something no president has ever taken off the table since we created nuclear weapons in the 1940s. Even Democrats who have worked in national security condemned all of those remarks. Mr. Obama is a foreign-policy novice who would put our national security at risk .

Next, consider economic policy. For all its faults, our health care system is the strongest in the world. And free trade agreements, created by Bill Clinton as well as President Bush, have made more goods more affordable so that even people of modest means can live a life that no one imagined a generation ago. Yet Mr. Obama promises to raise taxes on "the rich." How to fix Social Security? Raise taxes. How to fix Medicare? Raise taxes. Prescription drugs? Raise taxes. Free college? Raise taxes. Socialize medicine? Raise taxes. His solution to everything is to have government take it over. Big Brother on steroids, funded by your paycheck.

Finally, look at the social issues. Mr. Obama had the audacity to open a stadium rally by saying, "All praise and glory to God!" but says that Christian leaders speaking for life and marriage have "hijacked" - hijacked - Christianity. He is pro-partial birth abortion, and promises to appoint Supreme Court justices who will rule any restriction on it unconstitutional. He espouses the abortion views of Margaret Sanger, one of the early advocates of racial cleansing. His spiritual leaders endorse homosexual marriage, and he is moving in that direction. In Illinois, he refused to vote against a statewide ban - ban - on all handguns in the state. These are radical left, Hollywood, and San Francisco values, not Middle America values.

The real Mr. Obama is an easy target for the general election. Mrs. Clinton is a far tougher opponent. But Mr. Obama could win if people don't start looking behind his veneer and flowery speeches. His vision of "bringing America together" means saying that those who disagree with his agenda for America are hijackers or warmongers. Uniting the country means adopting his liberal agenda and abandoning any conflicting beliefs.

But right now everyone is talking about how eloquent of a speaker he is and - yes - they're talking about his race. Those should never be the factors on which we base our choice for president. Mr. Obama's radical agenda sets him far outside the American mainstream, to the left of Mrs. Clinton.

It's time to talk about the real Barack Obama. In an election of firsts, let's first make sure we elect the person who is qualified to be our president in a nuclear age during a global civilizational war.

I've actually re-read this crap again, with objectivity in mind.

Blackwell uses catch-words that would incite anger against Obama, ie--pro-partial-birth abortion, hijacked christianity, and my favorite line here:

Where or when did he say that? How does one infer that? I thought the 'if you're not with us, then you're against us' rhetoric belonged to the current administration.

Okay, it was written by a black guy. A black guy is seems to be quite Republican; or a Clinton supporter (I must note, the article was written in February, but is still making the e-mail circulation).

I think that many who read this are taking it to heart. When I criticized my aunt for sending it to me (sort of, she did put a "disclaimer" in it), she said she didn't really care/pay attention to it. Then why the hell are you sending it around? I'm sure crazy Aunt Ginny is taking it to heart. Well, they shouldn't be---this guy is a columnist, and this is his opinion. I don't see anything in the article in which he backs up his statement.

Whoever he is, he's a typical fear-mongering idiot with a penchant for invoking Hitler in a sideways manner as a point of argument. He not only invokes Hitler once with his distortion of Ahmadinejad's comments and the word Holocaust-- and don't get me wrong, Ahmadinejad's words were inflammatory and mistaken to begin with-- but he also sneaks in Margaret Sanger, which is a tricky reference to eugenics, taken on a slippery-slope ride to Nazi death camps. In fact, most of what he claims are Obama's stances (many of which are incorrect) are slippery-slope wordings based on distortions of reality. He's preaching to the political base of the GOP with this one, not to anyone who has brains enough to look for themselves.

I find it disheartening, by the way. I don't find it troubling because I support Obama, either. I find it troubling because I thought McCain was the best candidate back in the 2000 primaries, and what finally did his campaign in then was a slew of little white lies by the campaign managers of George W. Bush about the possibility that McCain had not just had an affair and a love-child of that affair, but had the audacity to have that affair with (gasp!) a black woman. It wasn't true, and the Bush campaigners made sure to word it not as an accusation but as a question, but it was enough to politically stop McCain in his tracks.

That's why I had such high hopes for this election-- both men are or have been subject of the most ridiculous and slanderous of lies about their personal and political lives. Unfortunately it seems that McCain has taken to allowing his staffers to make incendiary remarks, has decided to appear publicly with one of the swiftboater vets who smeared Kerry in 2004, has actually altered his stances on things like torture, government spending, and political accountability, and worst of all seems to be cozying up to the political agents who worked against him eight years ago. I would disagree with the campaign rhetoric from Obama that McCain is a 3rd Bush term in office, but I do think that McCain has taken too many steps to appear as if he was going to be in a lot of respects.

This passage is typical of people who fail to actually do any actual research on anything related to this issue. It's conservative talking points. There have been plenty of westerners who have lived and worked in the middle east and weren't beheaded. In fact I can think of only two westerners that have been beheaded(unless you are aware of more). Bill, this may come as a shock to you, but I did research these FACTS you speak so freely of. You stating that I am spreading leftist propaganda is like the pot calling the kettle black. Now that I'm at home, I've finally had a chance to look at this "unilaterally disarm our nation" video.

I can't believe that people actually looked at the title that some jackass gave it and ate it hook line and sinker. All I got out of this was that he wants to a) end the war in Iraq, b) cut down wasteful military spending (I have a story on this below), c) work eliminate nuclear weapons not only for the US, but worldwide. But then again, these are probably the same people who called Gore a "sore loser" when he asked that the Florida election debacle (which cost him the electoral) be investigated. The man had the popular vote in the bag, and voting boxes in Florida went missing in manatees! And they called him a "sore loser." These are probably also the same people that didn't smell anything fishy with the 2004 election (hmm, exit polls in Ohio say one thing, but the votes are saying another...) and thought that Osama bin Laden and Sadam Hussein were best friends and put "9/11" and "Iraq" in the same sentence.

Okay, onto wasteful military spending. This is a personal story, which I've been trying to get away from making these because they prove nothing most of the time, but this one is pretty good. A friend of my roomates just managed to get discharged from the Coast Guard because he hated it so much. A few months before his discharge, he was sent to work in a Navy printshop. In the two or three months he was there, they had no work sent to them, but had a $200,000/month budget for paper and ink that they HAD to spend, or they wouldn't get it the next month. They told this guy to do whatever he had to do to use the budget. So every month he was there, he used $200,000 worth of ink and paper to print out porn off the internet.

So during his tenure, he wasted $400,000-$600,000 worth of taxpayer money (let us not forget the enviromental problems that this creates in wasting paper and ink) so a Navy printshop wouldn't lose it's ridicoulously overblown budget. And this is just the Navy. AND just a printshop. I shudder to think how much is truly getting wasted as far as resources and money. Might as well light fire to the treasury.
